Summer afternoon

Hi Folks, Guided a group of fly anglers yesterday afternoon on the Lamoille River.  The water level is still twice the seasonal average flow, but dropping quickly.  Water temperature was 68 degrees and the clarity was pretty good.  Nice hot humid summer afternoon and a fine day to wet wade in a river.  A few #18/#20 micro caddis hatching at dusk and some rising fish, but nothing with any consistency.  We nymph fished for the most part casting a #12 double tungsten stone fly, a #18 caddis pupa, and a #18 and #16 olive bead headed hare's ear nymph.  We even swung a #10 heavily weighted olive wooly bugger.  We landed 3 rainbows had 7 fish eat the fly.  Lots of casting and drifting.  We did discover a lot of #10/#12 golden stone fly nymphs under rocks as well #14 light cahill nymphs on rocks.  Looks like both insects were preparing to hatch any day.  Off to chase trout this morning.  Best fishing right now is either early morning or late in the day.  Remember to clean your gear and keep the non-native species at home.  Have Fun, Willy
